We Named Kim & Kanye’s Baby!
We Named Kim & Kanye’s Baby!

  By Pamela Redmond Satran

Kim and Kanye’s baby son was born this morning, and while lots of joke baby names have been thrown about, from Easton to South to Yeezus, the new parents have confessed that they are seriously stumped on finding a good name.

So we have some ideas for them. Brilliant ideas.  C’mon, Kim and Kanye: Just let us name your baby.  Our picks:

Winter or Windsor, shortened to Win – We are super-excited about this one. We don’t know whether we prefer Winter or Windsor as a full name, with Winter connecting to the baby’s December birthday and Windsor referring to the British royals that Kim admires. Both lead to the undeniably perfect nickname Win, an upbeat word name that’s less jokey than another directional name and perfect for the son of the winning couple. PLUS the alliterative W beginning makes for a powerful full name: It echoes Kim’s KK initials without mimicking them.

Wilder or Wild – Wilder is a close second choice. Okay, so Wilder West is a little bit jokey, but no jokier than North West and it fits in with the family feeling. And Wilder is not only a cool and unusual yet stylish name, but it’s got several great things going for it. Besides the W beginning, two-syllables makes for a positive rhythm with a one-syllable surname. As a word name, Wilder has obvious appeal. And as a surname name, it’s symbolically important as the last name of Douglas Wilder, the first African-American to be elected governor of Virginia. Obvious nickname: Wild.

Wylie or Wiley – These two spellings of an energetic surname name embody less obvious wordplay than Wilder or Wild, for better or worse. But they still give you the WW initials and they’re still word names and so in synch with North.

Whit or Witt– We love the wit of this word name, obviously something that Kanye values in his lyrics and his name preferences. And it can take the formal name Whittaker or Whitman, as in poet Walt: Very cool.

December – Moving on from the W’s, we love word names, meaningful as they are a tradition in African cultures. December is one of the least-used of the month names, given to only 42 babies last year, all of them girls. But North was a mostly-male name before the couple chose it for their daughter, so why not go in the other direction this time? And December has an obvious connection to the baby’s birthday as well as a cold-weather compatibility with North.

Holiday – Another winter word name with a jolly image. And we love the short form Day.

Power – A powerful word name that seems fitting for the son of Yeezus.

Kassian – This version of the stylish saint’s name Cassian picks up the Kardashian K and also distances the name from the ancient Roman Cassius, the name that Mohammed Ali was born with and famously called a “slave name.”

All options considered, our final choice is Winter, shortened to Win. Stop debating and take our advice, K and K!
