Trending Girl Names

If you're a first-time parent, today's trending girl names may surprise you.

What are trending girl names? Trendy girl names are currently at the top of their game. They are more popular for babies born today than those born a decade ago, and in another decade may be on the downtrend again.

These names may be trending more or less depending on where you live, but taking the US as a whole, here are some unexpectedly trendy girl names:

Surprisingly Trendy Girl Names

Celine

Both Celine and Selene are on the rise (although we must note they are of separate origins!), but Celine is the dominant spelling. Associated with the fashion label and singer Dion, it first peaked in 1998 after the release of Titanic.

Baylor

It may sound like a Millennial name a la '90s darling Taylor, but Baylor has been on the rise for girls for several years now. It's a gender-neutral name, currently ranking higher for boys but growing faster for girls.

Della

Sweet Della was left behind when the swell of -ella names — Stella, Bella, Ella, et al. — rose to acclaim in the 2010s. The 2020s are shaping up to be Della's time to shine — it rose over 200 spots between 2020 and 2021, and 50 more the following year.

Elowyn

This Cornish name is traditionally spelled Elowen, but to our surprise, this Americanization is trending more than the original. Most Americans are pronouncing this name with the emphasis on the first syllable rather than the traditional Cornish way, el-OH-wyn.

Ezra

This Old Testament classic for boys is now being picked up for baby girls. Other Bible names for boys that are trending for girls include Noah and Micah.

Mavis

While many 1920s names that end in S — think Doris, Gladys, and Phyllis — are still untouched, Mavis is an exception. Boosted in part by now-trendy Maeve, Mavis was among the fastest-rising names last year.

Nori

This traveling lite name — and occasional nickname of North West — broke into the Top 1000 for the first time in 2022. Nori's stylish "nor" sound is also found in rising names Noor and Lenora.

Sapphire

Milky and muted names like Pearl and Opal have been the trendy gem names for a while now, but Sapphire is bringing boldness back with a vengeance. It joined the Top 1000 for the first time ever last year, and promises to rise further.

Winter

Autumn and Summer are downright mainstream, but Winter still feels like an edgy choice. It may surprise you to learn that Winter is ranked at Number 304, given to over 1000 baby girls last year.

Wrenley

Keep an eye on Wrenley — it went from never-been-used to the Top 500 in under 10 years. Wrenley first showed up in the data in 2013 when it was given to eight baby girls. Now, it's ranked at Number 284. Alternate spelling Wrenlee was the fastest-rising girl name of 2022.
