　　Now that the dust has settled on the new Social Security list, we’ve had time to dig deeper into the data, so let’s analyze the 2016 Top 100! Here are the most interesting finds, looking at some of the individual names!

　　NEW GIRLS: Adeline, Elena, Eliana, Kinsley, Luna, and Willow.

　　NEW BOYS: Bryson, Greyson, Leonardo, and Roman.

　　Adeline has been making a splash since it entered the Top 1000 in 1999 at #924. While it had also been in the Top 1000 from 1900 to 1952, reaching a high of #163 in 1917, it never broke into the Top 100 until 2016, jumping from #135 in 2015 to #63 in 2016!

　　Elena has been in the Top 1000 since 1900, but never entered the Top 100 until now! It rose from #106 in 2015 to #94 in 2016.

　　Eliana spent a brief time in the Top 1000 in 1986 and 1987, but started a more consistent rise in 1994, when it was ranked #996. It finally rose to #93 in 2016.

　　Kinsley is a fairly new name on the scene. It entered the Top 1000 in 2005 at #946, gradually rising into the Top 100 in 2016 at #86.

　　Luna was in the Top 1000 from 1900 through 1914, and again in 1916 and 1921. It re-entered the Top 1000 in 2003 at #889 and has risen to its highest ranking in 2016. It made a big jump from #110 in 2015 to #77 in 2016!

　　Willow showed up in the Top 1000 at #854 in 1998 and has reached its highest rank of #96 in 2016.

　　After breaking into the Top 1000 in 1979, Bryson made it into the Top 100 in 2011 and 2012, but then seemingly started to fall. However, it rose back up to #94 in 2016.

　　Greyson is new to the Top 100 at #96. It is an alternative spelling of Grayson, which has been in the Top 100 since 2011 and keeps rising (currently at #37). Grayson entered the Top 1000 in 1984 and Greyson entered the Top 1000 in 1995.

　　Leonardo has been in the Top 1000 for almost every year since 1905, but has never been in the Top 100 until 2016, when it ascended to #95.

　　Roman has had a consistent presence in the Top 1000 since 1900, but it really started to take on after 1980. Breaking into the Top 100 in 2016, it is now at #98.

　　NAMES THAT HAVE FALLEN OUT OF THE TOP 100…

　　GIRLS: Alexandra, Alexis, Alyssa, Annabelle, Ashley, and Isabelle.

　　BOYS: Blake, Kayden, Nathaniel, and Ryder.

　　Alexandra was in the Top 100 since 1984 and ranked as high as #26 in 1995 and 1996. The similar Alexis was also in the Top 100 since the 1980s and peaked all the way up to #3 in 1999. Alyssa had been in the Top 100 since 1986 and reached as high as #11 in 1998 and 1999. Annabelle had a short stint on the Top 100 from 2012 through 2015, only getting to #57 in 2014. Ashley was a favorite of parents from the 1980s through the 1990s, entering the Top 100 in 1978, staying in the Top 5 from 1983 through 1998, and peaking at #1 in 1991 and 1992. Isabelle was in the Top 100 from 2005 through 2008 and then again in 2014 and 2015, reaching as high as #79 in 2007.

　　Blake had been in the Top 100 since 1989, reaching as high as #71 in 2012. Kayden has been the recent top-spelling of Caden and in the Top 100 since 2012, peaking at #90 in 2014. Nathaniel has never ranked lower than #250, and was in the Top 100 since 1978, but has never ranked as high as its counterpart Nathan; the highest Nathaniel ranked was #60 in 1998. Ryder was only in the Top 100 for 2014 and 2015, ranking as high as #95 in 2014.

　　Notables:

　　The top 5 girl names and the top 4 boy names all decreased in use between 2015 and 2016. Out of the girls Top 10, only Charlotte and Harper increased in use. Out of the boys Top 10, only Benjamin, Elijah and James (barely) increased in use.

　　Only 29 of the Top 100 boy names (32 last year) and 35 of the Top 100 girl names (45 last year) increased in use.

　　Adeline is not only new to the Top 100, it is also the biggest jumper for girls. Last year’s top jumper, Alexa is the second biggest dropper this year.

　　Both Eleanor and Nora continue to rise.

　　Both Isabella and Isabelle are decreasing in use. Both Madeline and Madelyn are decreasing in use. Both Ariana and Arianna continue to fall.

　　Jaxon is rising (by 9 babies), while Jackson, Jaxson, and Jack are all falling.

　　As always, be careful not to assume that if a name fell in the rankings that is also fell in use, or vice versa. For example, Autumn rose from #69 to #65, but decreased in use by 118 babies. Cameron (for boys) fell one spot from #56 to #57, but increased in use by 76 babies.

　　Some Top 1000 Notables:

　　Aden, Aidan, Aiden, Ayden, and Aydin all decreased in use. Adan is the lone riser.

　　All the spellings of Jayden that are in the Top 1000 fell in use (Jaden, Jaiden, and Jayden), and Jadon dropped its way out of the Top 1000.

　　All the spellings of Kayden that are in the Top 1000 are decreasing in use (Caden, Caiden, Cayden, Kaden, Kaiden, and Kayden), and Kaeden dropped its way out of the Top 1000.

　　All the spellings of Emily that are in the Top 1000 fell in use (Emely, Emilee, Emilie, and Emily), while Emmalee fell out of the Top 1000.

　　All the spellings of Kaitlyn decreased in use (Kaitlyn and Katelyn), and Caitlin, Caitlyn, Kaitlynn, and Katelynn decreased their way out of the Top 1000.
